About the procedure

Breast augmentation increases the size and improves the shape of the breasts, most often with implants and, for patients who prefer their own tissue, with fat transfer. The decisions that matter most happen before surgery: the implant type and size, where it sits relative to the chest muscle and where the incision goes. Each choice affects how the result looks, feels and ages.

Dr. Khan plans augmentation around your proportions, your existing breast tissue and how you want the result to look in and out of clothing. At consultation you can see and feel different implants, and she takes measurements so the size you choose actually fits your chest. When volume loss comes with sagging, she may recommend a lift with implants instead.

What it addresses

  • Breasts that feel small for your frame
  • Volume lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss
  • Asymmetry between the breasts
  • A deflated upper breast with little fullness
  • Confidence in clothing and swimwear

What it doesn't do

  • Implants add volume; they do not lift. If the nipple sits low, a breast lift with implants is usually the right plan.
  • Implants are not lifetime devices. Most patients will need monitoring and, at some point, revision or replacement.
  • Very large implants on a small frame can look unnatural and strain tissue over time. Dr. Khan will tell you when a size is more than your anatomy supports.

Your implant, placement and incision choices

Your implant, placement and incision choices explained.

01

Silicone gel implants

Filled with cohesive silicone gel for a soft feel that closely resembles natural breast tissue. The most common choice for patients who want the most natural feel.

02

Saline implants

Filled with sterile salt water after placement, which allows a slightly smaller incision and lets volume be adjusted during surgery. They feel somewhat firmer than silicone.

03

Form-stable (gummy bear) implants

A thicker cohesive gel that holds its shape, with a gently sloping contour. Useful when maintaining a specific breast shape matters most.

04

Placement: under or over the muscle

Submuscular placement puts the implant beneath the chest muscle for more tissue coverage and a softer upper transition, which helps in thinner patients. Subglandular placement sits between the breast tissue and the muscle, with less interference from muscle movement. Dr. Khan recommends one based on your tissue.

05

Incision approaches

Inframammary (in the fold beneath the breast), periareolar (around the edge of the areola) or transaxillary (in the armpit). Each hides the scar differently and suits different implant types and sizes.

The Empowered approach

How Dr. Khan approaches breast augmentation

She starts with your goals and your measurements, not a default implant. Proportion drives her recommendations: an implant sized and placed to suit your chest width, existing tissue and skin reads as natural, while one that fights your anatomy does not. You see and handle implant options at consultation so the decision is informed rather than abstract.

Her technique is built around a gentle, efficient surgery and an early-mobility recovery plan, with incisions placed to be as inconspicuous as your anatomy allows and a scar-care protocol afterward. All follow-up visits are part of your care, and established surgical patients have a direct way to reach her after hours.

Your comfort, your choice

Dr. Khan offers two anesthesia approaches and matches the choice to your body, your plan and your comfort level. For appropriate candidates, breast augmentation can be performed awake using local anesthesia with sedation and the tumescent technique. You remain comfortable, can communicate with Dr. Khan during the procedure, and you avoid general anesthesia. You will still need someone to take you home.

Other patients prefer to sleep through the procedure under general anesthesia, which has been the standard approach for decades, and wake in recovery with the surgery complete. Neither option is right for everyone. Dr. Khan reviews both with you at consultation and recommends the one that fits your health history and your surgical plan.

Who it may suit

You may be a candidate if…

  • You are in good general health, at a stable weight and not currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Your breasts are fully developed and you have a clear idea of the size and look you want.
  • You understand that implants aren’t permanent devices and that monitoring and possible future surgery are part of the decision.
  • You do not smoke, or are willing to stop before and after surgery.
  • Dr. Khan confirms candidacy in person after examining your breast tissue, skin and chest measurements.

Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation, after an examination and a review of your medical history.

What to expect

  1. 01

    Consultation

About an hour with Dr. Khan to review your goals and medical history, take measurements, see and feel implant options, discuss placement, incision and anesthesia, and talk through recovery.

  2. 02

    Your plan

A written surgical plan covering the implant type and size, placement, incision, the anesthesia approach and pre-operative instructions. Pricing is reviewed with your plan.

  3. 03

    Surgery day

Through the chosen incision, Dr. Khan creates a pocket above or below the muscle, places the implant and closes in layers. Most patients go home the same day in a supportive surgical bra.

  4. 04

    Recovery and follow-up

You’ll be up and moving gently the day of surgery. Follow-up visits track healing and implant settling, and established surgical patients have a direct way to reach Dr. Khan after hours.

Recovery

Healing takes time, and it varies.

Expect tightness, swelling and soreness across the chest in the first days, more so with placement under the muscle. Many patients are back to light activities within several days and to normal routines, excluding strenuous exercise and heavy lifting, within about one to two weeks. A supportive bra is worn as directed.

Implants sit high and firm at first and settle into a softer, more natural position over the following weeks to months. Exercise returns gradually once Dr. Khan clears it, and incision lines fade over the first year with scar care.

Risks and limitations

What you should know before deciding.

Every surgery carries risk. These are the ones most relevant to this procedure; Dr. Khan reviews your personal risk profile and the alternatives with you before anything is scheduled.

  • Capsular contracture, where scar tissue around the implant tightens and firms or distorts the breast
  • Implant rupture or leakage, and the eventual need for revision or replacement surgery
  • Changes in nipple or breast sensation, usually temporary but occasionally lasting
  • Implant malposition, asymmetry, visible rippling or an unnatural shape
  • Hematoma (a collection of blood), fluid accumulation (seroma) or infection
  • Interference with breastfeeding or with mammogram imaging that requires special views
  • Rare implant-associated conditions that Dr. Khan reviews with you as part of informed consent
  • Reactions to anesthesia, and risks specific to the anesthesia approach chosen

FAQ

Breast Augmentation questions

Every answer here is general information. Your own plan, risks and recovery are discussed in person at your consultation.

Can breast augmentation really be done awake?

For appropriate candidates, yes. The awake approach uses local anesthesia with sedation and the tumescent technique, so the surgical area is numb while you remain comfortable and able to communicate with Dr. Khan. You avoid general anesthesia, though you will still need a ride home. It isn’t the right fit for every patient or every plan, which is why both options are reviewed at consultation.

How do I choose the right implant size?

Together, with measurements. Dr. Khan measures your chest width and existing tissue, then uses sizers and implant samples at consultation so you can see how different volumes look on your frame. The goal is proportion: a size that gives you the fullness you want without looking separate from the rest of your body or straining your tissue over time.

How long does recovery take after breast augmentation?

Most patients return to light activities within several days and to normal routines, apart from strenuous exercise and heavy lifting, within about one to two weeks. Early gentle movement is encouraged. Implants look high and feel firm at first and settle over the following weeks to months. Dr. Khan clears each step back to full activity at your follow-up visits.

How long do breast implants last?

Implants are not considered lifetime devices. Many last for a long time, but rupture, capsular contracture, changes in your body or simply a change in what you want can lead to revision or replacement at some point. Dr. Khan discusses monitoring recommendations for your implant type and what to expect over the long term at consultation.

Will I lose nipple sensation or the ability to breastfeed?

Changes in nipple sensation are possible after augmentation. For most patients they are temporary, though lasting change can occur. Dr. Khan chooses incision placement and technique with nerve preservation in mind. Many women breastfeed after augmentation, but it cannot be promised, and the incision and placement you choose can affect the odds. Raise both topics at consultation so they factor into your plan.

How much does breast augmentation cost in Sugar Land and Houston?

Pricing depends on the implant type, the anesthesia approach and whether augmentation is combined with a lift or other procedures. Dr. Khan provides a detailed quote based on your plan at consultation. Financing is available through Cherry, PatientFi and CareCredit.
