Botox

Soften the lines that expression leaves behind, across the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes, without giving up the expressions themselves. Dr. Khan places Botox conservatively so you look rested rather than treated.

About the treatment

Botox is an injectable that temporarily relaxes the small facial muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles, the lines that form when you raise your brows, frown or squint. When those muscles contract less forcefully, the skin over them smooths, and lines that were starting to etch in have a chance to soften. It is a short office visit with little interruption to your day.

Dr. Khan treats Botox as a matter of placement and dose rather than volume. She studies how your face moves before deciding where to inject, and she favors a conservative first treatment that can be adjusted at a follow-up visit. The aim is a face that still moves and still looks like you, just less tired or tense.

What it addresses

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Frown lines between the brows
  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes
  • Bunny lines across the bridge of the nose
  • A gummy smile or a lip flip for subtle upper-lip fullness
  • Downturned mouth corners, chin dimpling and neck bands
  • Early lines treated before they settle into the skin

What it doesn't do

  • Botox relaxes muscle. It does not fill static creases or restore lost volume, which is where dermal fillers come in.
  • It does not lift loose skin or heavy brows. When laxity is the main issue, Dr. Khan may discuss a brow lift, eyelid lift or facelift instead.
  • The effect is temporary. Keeping your result means returning for maintenance treatments.

How Botox is used

How Botox is used explained.

01

Upper face

The forehead, the frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet are the most common areas. Dosing is balanced so the brows stay in a natural position and your forehead can still move.

02

Mid and lower face

Small, precise doses can soften bunny lines on the nose, a gummy smile, lip lines, a dimpled chin, downturned mouth corners and the vertical bands of the neck. These areas call for lighter dosing and careful placement.

03

Lip flip

A few units placed along the upper lip border let the lip roll slightly outward, giving a subtle sense of fullness without adding volume. It suits patients who want a soft change rather than a filler result.

04

Preventive treatment

For patients who notice lines beginning to linger after the expression fades, lower-dose treatment can reduce the repeated creasing that deepens them over time.

05

Balancing asymmetry

When one side of the face pulls more strongly than the other, selective relaxation can help the two sides move more evenly.

The Empowered approach

How Dr. Khan approaches Botox

She starts by watching your face in motion: which muscles pull hardest, where the brows sit at rest, and how the upper and lower face work together. That assessment shapes the dose and the injection pattern, because the same number of units placed differently can produce a very different result.

Her philosophy is conservative. A first treatment is dosed to soften rather than freeze, and she would rather bring you back for a small adjustment than over-treat. She also looks at Botox in the context of your whole face, so if volume loss or skin laxity is contributing more than muscle movement, she will say so and talk through fillers, a peel or a surgical option.

Who it may suit

You may be a candidate if…

  • You have lines that appear or deepen with expression, such as forehead lines, frown lines or crow’s feet.
  • You want a refreshed look while keeping natural movement, and you have realistic expectations about a temporary, subtle result.
  • You are an adult in good general health with no active skin infection at the planned injection sites.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding and do not have a neuromuscular condition that would make treatment inappropriate.
  • You may be a candidate if these apply, and Dr. Khan confirms candidacy in person after reviewing your medical history and examining how your face moves.

Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation, after an examination and a review of your medical history.

How treatment works

  1. 01

    Consultation

Dr. Khan reviews your concerns, examines your muscle patterns at rest and in motion, and talks through which areas are likely to respond, how much softening to aim for and whether another treatment would serve you better. Treatment can often be done at the same visit.

  2. 02

    Treatment plan

A dosing plan by area, with a note of how it may be adjusted at follow-up. Pricing is reviewed with your plan, and you receive simple pre-treatment guidance, such as avoiding blood-thinning supplements when it is safe for you to do so.

  3. 03

    Treatment day

The skin is cleansed and injection points are marked. A fine needle delivers small amounts of Botox into the targeted muscles. Most patients describe brief pinpricks, and ice is available for comfort, though many need no numbing. The visit is short.

  4. 04

    Aftercare and results

Stay upright for several hours, skip strenuous exercise for the rest of the day and avoid facial massage for about a week. Softening usually begins within a few days and settles over about two weeks. A follow-up visit lets Dr. Khan fine-tune if needed.

Recovery

Aftercare and results.

There is no real downtime. You can return to work and most normal activities right away. Small bumps at the injection sites settle within a short time, and any mild redness or bruising is easy to cover and usually brief.

Results are gradual. Lines begin to soften over the first several days and the full effect is visible in roughly two weeks. For most patients the effect lasts a few months before movement gradually returns, and many choose maintenance visits roughly every three to four months. How long it lasts varies with your metabolism, muscle strength, the area treated and the dose.

Side effects and limitations

What to weigh before treatment.

Most side effects are mild and temporary, but treatment has limits. Dr. Khan reviews these with you before treatment and tells you candidly when another option would serve you better.

  • Bruising, redness, swelling or tenderness at the injection sites
  • Headache or a mild, short-lived flu-like feeling after treatment
  • Temporary heaviness or drooping of a brow or eyelid if the product affects a nearby muscle, which wears off as the effect fades
  • Uneven softening or asymmetry that may need a small adjustment
  • A result that is milder, or wears off sooner, than expected
  • Rare allergic reaction or difficulty with nearby functions such as swallowing when the neck is treated
  • Not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, or with an active skin infection at the site

FAQ

Botox questions

Every answer here is general information. Your own plan, risks and recovery are discussed in person at your consultation.

When will I see Botox results, and how long do they last?

Softening usually starts within a few days, with the full effect visible in about two weeks as the treated muscles relax. The effect typically lasts a few months, and many patients return roughly every three to four months to maintain it. Your metabolism, muscle strength, the area treated and the dose all influence duration, and first-time patients sometimes see a shorter result than they do after regular treatments.

Will Botox make me look frozen?

It should not. A frozen look comes from too much product or placement that stops muscles you want to keep. Dr. Khan doses conservatively and targets specific muscles while leaving neighbors alone, so you can still raise your brows, smile and frown. If you want more softening after your follow-up, the dose can be adjusted at the next visit.

What is the difference between Botox and dermal fillers?

Botox relaxes the muscles that create dynamic lines, the ones that show when you move. Fillers add volume to smooth static creases and restore fullness in areas like the cheeks and lips. They solve different problems and are often paired in the same visit. Dr. Khan will tell you which one, or which combination, fits what she sees on your face.

What is a lip flip, and how is it different from lip filler?

A lip flip uses a few units of Botox along the upper lip border to relax the muscle slightly, letting the lip roll outward so more of it shows. It adds no volume, so the change is subtle and suits patients who want definition rather than fullness. Lip filler adds actual volume and shape. The two can also be combined.

Can Botox prevent wrinkles?

It can reduce the repeated creasing that deepens expression lines over time. Patients who notice lines lingering after the expression fades sometimes choose lower-dose treatment for that reason. It will not stop skin from aging, and it does nothing for lines caused by sun damage or volume loss, so Dr. Khan weighs whether it is worthwhile for you.

How much does Botox cost in Sugar Land and Houston?

Cost depends on the areas treated and the number of units needed, which varies with muscle strength and the degree of softening you want. Dr. Khan gives you a unit recommendation and a price before treatment. Financing is available through Cherry, PatientFi and CareCredit.
