Renuvion Skin Tightening

For skin that has loosened but doesn’t need a lift, Renuvion delivers controlled energy beneath the surface to tighten what is there, through incisions small enough to disappear.

About the procedure

Renuvion is a minimally invasive skin-tightening treatment that combines helium plasma and radiofrequency energy. A thin handpiece is passed beneath the skin through tiny incisions, delivering brief, controlled heat to the underside of the skin and the connective tissue that supports it. The tissue contracts during the procedure, and collagen remodeling continues to firm the area over the following months.

Dr. Khan uses Renuvion in two ways: on its own, for mild to moderate laxity in areas such as the neck, arms, abdomen or thighs, and alongside liposuction, where it helps the skin contract over the newly contoured area. It fills the gap between topical or external treatments that do little for real looseness, and surgical lifts that remove skin at the cost of a long scar.

What it addresses

  • Loose skin under the chin and along the neck and jawline
  • Abdominal skin laxity, particularly after liposuction
  • Crepey or loose skin on the upper arms and inner thighs
  • Laxity at the flanks, back and bra line
  • Residual looseness after a previous procedure or after weight loss

What it doesn't do

  • Renuvion tightens existing skin; it does not remove it. Significant excess or hanging skin still calls for a tummy tuck, arm lift or other surgical lift.
  • Results depend on your skin’s remaining elasticity and thickness. Very thin or heavily sun-damaged skin responds less predictably.
  • The change is gradual and moderate by design. It is not a substitute for a facelift or neck lift when laxity is advanced.

How Renuvion is used

How Renuvion is used explained.

01

Standalone skin tightening

For mild to moderate laxity without much excess fat, Renuvion is performed on its own through incisions a few millimeters long, placed in creases or areas clothing covers.

02

With liposuction

This is the most common pairing. Liposuction removes fat and Renuvion is applied beneath the skin in the same session, helping it contract over the new contour rather than settling loosely once the volume is gone.

03

With surgical contouring

Renuvion can be added to a tummy tuck, arm lift or other procedure to firm adjacent areas where more skin removal isn’t warranted but some tightening would help.

04

Neck and jawline

For a softer jawline or early neck laxity, Renuvion, often with chin and neck liposuction, can sharpen definition when a surgical neck lift would be more than you need.

The Empowered approach

How Dr. Khan approaches Renuvion

She is trained in Renuvion application and treats skin quality as the deciding factor. At consultation she assesses the thickness, elasticity and degree of looseness in each area, and tells you candidly whether Renuvion alone, Renuvion with liposuction or a surgical lift is the realistic way to get the result you want. Matching the treatment to the tissue is what keeps expectations honest.

During treatment she works in a controlled pattern beneath the skin, with temperature managed to protect the overlying surface, and plans a measured amount of contraction rather than over-treating. The aim is a natural, gradual improvement that develops as collagen remodels over the months that follow.

Awake, with local anesthesia or light sedation

Standalone Renuvion is generally performed with local anesthesia or light sedation, so you remain awake and comfortable during the procedure and go home the same day.

When Renuvion is combined with liposuction or surgery, the anesthesia follows the plan for that procedure, which may be awake with tumescent anesthesia or general anesthesia. Dr. Khan reviews the approach with you at consultation.

Who it may suit

You may be a candidate if…

  • You have mild to moderate loose skin rather than significant hanging excess.
  • Your skin has reasonable thickness and some remaining elasticity.
  • You are at a stable weight and in good general health, without an active infection or a condition that impairs healing.
  • You want improvement without the scars of a surgical lift and understand the result is gradual and moderate.
  • You may be a candidate if these apply, and Dr. Khan confirms candidacy in person after assessing your skin and your goals.

Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation, after an examination and a review of your medical history.

What to expect

  1. 01

    Consultation

About an hour with Dr. Khan to examine the areas that concern you, assess skin thickness and laxity, and decide whether Renuvion alone, with liposuction or a surgical option fits your goals.

  2. 02

    Your plan

A written plan covering the areas to treat, whether liposuction is included, the anesthesia approach and pre-procedure instructions. Pricing is reviewed with your plan.

  3. 03

    Treatment day

After the area is numbed, small incisions are made and the Renuvion handpiece is passed beneath the skin in a controlled pattern. Some contraction is visible right away. Treatment typically takes roughly thirty to ninety minutes depending on the areas, and you go home the same day.

  4. 04

    Recovery and follow-up

A compression garment supports the treated area while swelling settles. Dr. Khan follows your progress at scheduled visits, and established surgical patients have a direct way to reach her after hours.

Recovery

Healing takes time, and it varies.

Expect mild swelling, bruising and tenderness for about three to seven days, with a compression garment worn to support the area. Many patients return to desk work within one to three days and resume normal activity within a week, holding off on strenuous exercise for about two to three weeks as Dr. Khan clears it.

Some tightening is visible immediately, but the main improvement develops over roughly three to six months as collagen remodels. Results last best with a stable weight and sun protection, and natural aging continues, so some patients consider a touch-up years later.

Risks and limitations

What you should know before deciding.

Every surgery carries risk. These are the ones most relevant to this procedure; Dr. Khan reviews your personal risk profile and the alternatives with you before anything is scheduled.

  • Prolonged swelling, bruising or firmness in the treated area
  • Burns to the skin surface or deeper tissue if heat is not well controlled
  • Temporary or, less commonly, lasting numbness or changes in sensation
  • Contour irregularities, asymmetry or less tightening than hoped
  • Infection, fluid accumulation (seroma) or small scars at the incision sites
  • Pneumothorax or subcutaneous air (emphysema) is a rare but recognized risk of gas-based energy devices
  • Reactions to the local anesthetic or sedation

FAQ

Renuvion Skin Tightening questions

Every answer here is general information. Your own plan, risks and recovery are discussed in person at your consultation.

How is Renuvion different from a surgical lift?

A surgical lift removes excess skin directly, which is what advanced laxity needs, and it leaves a longer scar. Renuvion contracts the skin you have from beneath, through incisions a few millimeters long, with a shorter recovery. It suits mild to moderate looseness. Dr. Khan tells you at consultation which category your skin falls into, and sometimes recommends both.

Is Renuvion done awake?

Standalone Renuvion is generally performed with local anesthesia or light sedation, so you are awake and comfortable and go home the same day. When it is combined with liposuction or surgery, the anesthesia follows that procedure’s plan, which Dr. Khan reviews with you.

Does Renuvion work on the neck?

Renuvion can sharpen the jawline and firm early neck laxity, often paired with chin and neck liposuction, when the main issue is mild looseness rather than significant excess skin or muscle banding. For more advanced neck aging, a neck lift gives a more complete result. Dr. Khan assesses which applies to you.

How long do Renuvion results last?

The contraction and collagen remodeling Renuvion produces tend to hold for years, though natural aging, weight changes, sun exposure and genetics all affect how long. A stable weight and sun protection help preserve the result. Some patients consider a touch-up treatment later; many do not need one.

What is recovery from Renuvion like?

Mild swelling, bruising and tenderness for about three to seven days, a compression garment, and a return to desk work within a few days for most patients. Strenuous exercise waits about two to three weeks. The tightening keeps developing for three to six months.
