About the procedure

Liposuction removes localized fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise, so a treated area sits in better proportion with the rest of your body. It is a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss procedure, and the results tend to look most natural when the plan considers how each treated area relates to the ones around it.

Dr. Khan plans liposuction around your anatomy: where fat sits, how your skin behaves, and what you want the finished silhouette to look like. In some cases the fat she removes can be purified and used elsewhere, for a Brazilian butt lift, fat transfer to the breasts, or facial and hand rejuvenation, when that is clinically appropriate.

What it addresses

  • Abdomen and waist
  • Flanks, back and bra line
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Upper arms
  • Neck and under-chin area
  • Hips, knees and surrounding contour areas
  • Male chest (see gynecomastia surgery)

What it doesn't do

  • It does not remove loose, hanging skin. When laxity is the main concern, a tummy tuck or lift may be the better procedure, sometimes combined with liposuction.
  • It does not treat weight. Results hold best at a stable weight.
  • It does not tighten separated abdominal muscles after pregnancy.

Techniques Dr. Khan uses

Techniques Dr. Khan uses explained.

01

Tumescent liposuction

A local anesthetic solution is infused into the treatment area before fat is removed. It supports precision, smoother contouring and comfort, and it is what makes an awake approach possible for appropriate candidates.

02

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL)

Gentle, controlled vibration helps break up and remove fat more efficiently, which is useful in larger areas or denser tissue.

03

Lipo 360

Liposuction of the front, sides and back of the torso in one plan, so the waist, flanks and lower back are contoured as a continuous shape rather than as separate spots.

04

Minimally invasive skin tightening

For mild laxity, Renuvion can be added to a liposuction plan to help the skin contract over the treated area. Whether it helps depends on your skin quality and how much tightening is needed.

The Empowered approach

How Dr. Khan approaches liposuction

She works with an eye for proportion: smooth transitions between treated and untreated areas, and a waist, hip and back that read as one shape. Safe planning matters more than removing the maximum possible volume, so she may recommend treating fewer areas, or staging areas across sessions, when that is the better plan for you.

Your care includes a personal medical evaluation, anesthesia planning and appropriate monitoring before, during and after the procedure.

Awake or asleep: your choice, within what is safe

Liposuction can be performed under general anesthesia or, for appropriate candidates, awake using the tumescent technique, where local anesthesia is infused into the treatment area. Some patients prefer being awake and avoiding general anesthesia; others are better suited to general anesthesia, particularly when several areas or a larger volume are planned.

The right approach depends on the number of areas treated, the extent of contouring, your medical history and your comfort. Dr. Khan reviews both options at your consultation and recommends the one that fits your plan.

Who it may suit

You may be a candidate if…

  • You are in good general health and at a weight you can maintain.
  • You have specific areas of fat that haven’t responded to diet and exercise.
  • Your skin has reasonable elasticity, or you are open to combining skin tightening or a lift.
  • You are looking for refinement in specific areas rather than overall weight loss.
  • Candidacy is individual. Dr. Khan confirms it in person after examining fat distribution, skin quality and your medical history.

Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation, after an examination and a review of your medical history.

What to expect

  1. 01

    Consultation

About an hour with Dr. Khan to review your goals, examine the areas you have in mind, and talk through awake vs. general anesthesia, combinations and realistic outcomes.

  2. 02

    Your plan

A written plan covering the areas to treat, the technique, the anesthesia approach and pre-operative instructions. Pricing is reviewed with your plan.

  3. 03

    Procedure day

Small incisions are placed discreetly. Fat is removed with a thin cannula after the tumescent solution has taken effect. Most patients go home the same day.

  4. 04

    Recovery and follow-up

A compression garment supports the treated areas while swelling settles. Dr. Khan follows your healing at scheduled visits, and established surgical patients have a direct way to reach her after hours.

Recovery

Healing takes time, and it varies.

Swelling and bruising are expected and vary with the number of areas treated. Many patients return to desk work within days to about a week, with exercise reintroduced gradually as Dr. Khan clears it.

Some contour change is visible early, but swelling can hide the final shape for several weeks. Results typically continue to refine over roughly three to six months, and they last best with a stable weight and healthy habits.

Risks and limitations

What you should know before deciding.

Every surgery carries risk. These are the ones most relevant to this procedure; Dr. Khan reviews your personal risk profile and the alternatives with you before anything is scheduled.

  • Contour irregularities, asymmetry or waviness, more likely when skin elasticity is poor
  • Prolonged swelling, bruising, numbness or changes in skin sensation
  • Fluid accumulation (seroma), infection or bleeding
  • Loose skin becoming more noticeable once fat is removed
  • Reactions to anesthesia, and risks specific to the anesthesia approach chosen
  • The need for a touch-up or additional procedure to reach your goals

FAQ

Liposuction questions

Every answer here is general information. Your own plan, risks and recovery are discussed in person at your consultation.

Can I really be awake for liposuction?

For appropriate candidates, yes. The tumescent technique numbs the treatment area with local anesthesia, and some patients also receive light oral sedation to relax. You can communicate with Dr. Khan during the procedure, and you avoid general anesthesia. It is not the right fit for every patient or every plan, which is why both options are discussed at your consultation.

What is Lipo 360, and is it different from regular liposuction?

Lipo 360 is liposuction planned around the entire torso: abdomen, waist, flanks and lower back in a single procedure. The technique is the same, but the planning treats the midsection as one continuous shape. It is a good fit when fullness sits all the way around rather than in one spot.

How much fat can be removed safely?

That depends on your body size, health history, the areas treated and the overall plan. Dr. Khan plans for safety, proportion and smooth contours rather than the maximum possible volume, and she may recommend a staged approach when several areas are involved.

Will my skin tighten after liposuction?

It depends on your skin’s elasticity, your age, the area treated, your weight history and how much fat is removed. Patients with good elasticity often see the skin contract as swelling resolves. When skin is looser, Dr. Khan may suggest adding Renuvion skin tightening or, for significant laxity, a tummy tuck or lift instead.

What does liposuction cost?

Pricing depends on the areas treated, the technique, the anesthesia approach and whether it is combined with another procedure, so it is reviewed with your plan at consultation. Financing is available through Cherry, PatientFi and CareCredit.

Can the fat be used somewhere else?

Often, yes. Purified fat from liposuction can be transferred to the buttocks (Brazilian butt lift), the breasts, the face or the hands when it is clinically appropriate. If that interests you, mention it at your consultation so the plan accounts for it.
