Scalp injections
After a topical numbing cream is applied, the PRP is injected in small amounts across the thinning areas. This is the standard approach and the one used for most patients.
Model MedSpa · Non-surgical hair support
Thinning that has not yet become bare scalp is where PRP earns its place. Concentrated from your own blood and placed into the scalp, it supports follicles that are weakened but still alive, with no surgery and little interruption to your week.
About the treatment
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is prepared by drawing a small sample of your blood, spinning it to concentrate the platelets and the growth factors they carry, and injecting that concentrate into areas of the scalp where hair is thinning. The aim is to support follicles that are still present but producing finer, weaker hair, so that over a series of sessions density and hair quality may improve.
Dr. Khan offers PRP as a non-surgical option on its own and as support alongside hair restoration. It works best early, while follicles are still active, and it does nothing for areas that have been bald for years. She is direct about that at consultation, because PRP is a commitment to a series and to maintenance, and it should be chosen for the right reasons.
The Empowered approach
She evaluates before she treats. A scalp examination, a look at the pattern and stage of thinning, and a review of your family history, hormones, medications and any recent weight change tell her whether PRP is likely to help, whether something else needs attention first, and whether a transplant is the better conversation.
When PRP is the right fit, she sets up a series with photos at baseline so progress can be judged honestly, and she adjusts the plan based on how you respond rather than running a fixed protocol regardless of results.
Who it may suit
Candidacy is confirmed at your consultation, after an examination and a review of your medical history.
How treatment works
Dr. Khan examines the scalp and the pattern of thinning, reviews your history and asks about hormones, medications, nutrition and weight changes. She tells you whether PRP is likely to help, and whether lab work or another evaluation should come first.
A plan for the initial series, typically several sessions spaced a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance at longer intervals, with baseline photos to track progress. Pricing is reviewed with your plan.
A small blood sample is drawn, much like routine lab work, and spun to concentrate the platelets. Numbing cream is applied to the scalp, then the PRP is injected across the thinning areas, with microneedling added if it is part of your plan. The visit is relatively short.
Mild tenderness or redness settles within a day or two. You can wash your hair gently the next day. Changes are gradual: shedding may slow first, with improvements in density and hair quality appearing over months as the hair cycle turns over.
Recovery
There is no real downtime. The scalp may feel tender, tight or slightly swollen for a day or two, and you may see pinpoint marks where the injections were given. Most patients return to work the same day, hold off on strenuous exercise until the next day and wash gently with a mild shampoo thereafter.
Results are slow and cumulative. Some patients notice a short period of increased shedding a few weeks after a session as the hair cycle resets. Improvement in density and thickness, when it comes, typically shows over several months and continues through the series. Because the effect is not permanent, maintenance sessions are planned to hold it.
Side effects and limitations
Most side effects are mild and temporary, but treatment has limits. Dr. Khan reviews these with you before treatment and tells you candidly when another option would serve you better.

FAQ
Every answer here is general information. Your own plan, risks and recovery are discussed in person at your consultation.
It varies. PRP tends to work best for early to moderate pattern thinning where follicles are still active, and it does nothing for long-standing bald areas. Some patients see slower shedding and thicker, denser hair over the course of a series; others see only modest change. Dr. Khan evaluates your pattern honestly and sets expectations for your case rather than quoting averages.
Most plans begin with an initial series of several sessions spaced a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions at longer intervals. The initial series allows the effect to build, and the maintenance schedule depends on how you respond and whether your hair loss is still progressing. Dr. Khan adjusts the plan based on your results.
The blood draw feels like routine lab work, and numbing cream makes the scalp injections feel like brief pinpricks. Afterward the scalp may be tender for a day or two. There is no downtime beyond skipping strenuous exercise until the next day, and you can wash your hair gently the following morning.
PRP supports hair you still have; a transplant moves hair into areas that have lost it. If your thinning is early and diffuse, PRP on its own may be the right starting point. If you have a receded hairline or a bare crown, a transplant is the treatment that adds hair there, and PRP becomes support rather than the main event. Dr. Khan performs both, so her recommendation depends on your pattern, not on the procedure.
Yes. Microneedling can be added so PRP reaches the scalp surface as well as the injection sites. PRP is also used alongside NeoGraft hair restoration and can be combined with medical treatment, nutrition review or red light therapy when the cause of your hair loss calls for it. Dr. Khan designs the combination around what is driving your thinning.
